Expanding an Influencers Portfolio

Last updated: June-9,2022

Strengthening a Social Media Influencer’s Fitness Brand with All-Natural Supplements!

Influencers and creators are the trending terms in this digital, entertainment, and business era. Today, we don’t ask people who their favorite actor or actress is; we ask – “who is your favorite creator or influencer?”

The other side of the table holds our influencers, the creative heads that keep us entertained and actively look for opportunities to monetize from the audience they’ve built. We can say that the way we do business has changed! And we’ve seen this trickle into our supplement manufacturing business, too!

A while back, we were approached by a social media influencer who wanted to create a custom supplement line that she could sell to her loyal audience of 500,000+ followers! The story that follows is an exciting read!

The Situation:

With over 500,000 followers, this social media influencer supports her community by regularly providing them with nutritional advice, workout programs, and motivational content. She started her health and wellness page by documenting her own weight management journey nearly a decade ago.

She approached NutraScience Labs to about expanding her product portfolio to include dietary supplements. Prior to contacting us, she had achieved success selling generic fitness products like clothing, workout planners, recipe books, fitness plans, and some exercise accessories. She felt that offering them high-quality dietary supplement products formulated to her specifications was the next logical step. Further, she told us about the wellness and health product she planned to bring her followers (a line of powder dietary supplements) along with their dietary restrictions and flavoring preferences. We ultimately help her manufacture a delicious plant protein product and powder-based boosters intended to support sleep, immunity, and mood.

The Challenge:

  1. Label Design and Color
The client wanted to ensure the colors worked perfectly for their brand image and identity.
At NutraScience Labs, we believe in a customer-centric approach to ensure we’re delivering exactly what the client needs. Staying true to this, we shared a few samples of the labels with the client to ensure they matched the brand identity that she had in her mind. It was telling the story and fitting her aesthetic goals. This may appear time-consuming, but in the end – our client was happy with the colors and ended up selecting the best for her brand!

  2. Implementing Natural Flavors
Our team had to make sure they were using natural flavors and sweeteners and were able to deliver a great-tasting product. This was the ask from the client. To ensure we matched her flavor expectations, we shared multiple flavor samples for the plant protein and boosters.

The client wanted to use pomegranate flavoring – hence, the flavoring team at NutraScience Labs had to dial back the color and strong taste from the pomegranate. We also explained the reason why it happens and how natural ingredients can vary with each batch.

Flavoring is a crucial factor for a dietary supplement to stand apart from the rest. And no matter what flavor one chooses to work with, achieving the right taste, texture, and mouth feel of the product takes time.
10 Steps for flavoring dietary supplements

The Approach

  • Sharing Previous Successful Startup Experiences
As an experienced provider of supplement manufacturing services, we had multiple success stories to share with the client. She found those stories convincing, and they matched the vision she had for her brand. When you work with NutraScience Labs, you get a dedicated customer and account manager who will be there for you to answer any and every question that you may have. This is one of the qualities why new dietary supplement brands like and trust working with us. We provide world-class turnkey services and unmatched flavoring capabilities and have state-of-the-art GMP and ISO-Certified laboratories throughout the United States.

  • Guidance with the FDA Labeling Rules
We didn’t help entirely with the labeling but assisted with ensuring they were FDA compliant with appropriate formatting. Our team also shared key information on the label printing process, for example, flexographic vs. digital printing, pantone colors, etc. Additionally, we helped the client understand how certain finishes, such as matte or gloss, affect colors.

  • Suggesting Alternatives to Meet Urgent Demands
Our client wanted to use custom-colored lids. It was impossible to pull this off considering the timing and supply issues with plastic due to the pandemic. Instead, we suggested using a custom-colored neckband as a temporary solution. This would lend a look of a colored lid without having to go through the logistic trouble of manufacturing lids.

The Solution

NutraScience Labs assisted with formulating various products that the client wanted.

  • Walking the Client Through the Entire Process
The client moved forward with all five products at once. Some of the SKUs were larger orders than others. She ordered three times during the year and became one of the biggest new customers for NutraScience Labs in 2021. The lead time on the initial order was much longer than usual. This was due to flavor samples, label design, and supply chain. But as they say, good things take time!

Despite sharing our recommendations on what needed to be done, the process proceeded at a slower pace to ensure it didn’t hamper the quality of the products. We had to take extra steps with the label design that extended the lead time by a bit. After the first batch, the rest proceeded at a normal pace.

  • Offering Expert Flavoring Capabilities
We made multiple flavor samples with different natural sweeteners and mixtures. Since it is all-natural, there can always be issues arising from the natural state of the ingredients. These changes can differ from lot to lot, causing a slight difference in taste. We explained the same to the client, and they were on board with it.

  • Keeping the Client Updated About Target Audience Preferences
We also suggested new ideas and powders that could be introduced in their line of products. Since her target audience is mostly women, we suggested different SKUs that women might like – collagen, skin, hair, nails, and green superfoods.

Result

NutraScience Labs created various flavor samples to make sure they tasted well and suited her preferences. Furthermore, she was happy with the look, mouthfeel, and taste of the product. Her business is progressing very well, too, with an average rating of 4.5 – 5 stars on Amazon. The client is also looking to expand her portfolio by introducing new products and formulas to her fitness brand.
